Okay, I watched it, and I rewatched it and I'm still in shock and awe. I want to know why Tarrlok got so angry when Korra said that he's just as bad as Amon. I think he might be somehow related to Amon, maybe a brother or something. I don't know, but there's definitely something there. The flashbacks... I'm not even sure what to make of them. That guy (Yukone?) was bloodbending everyone. And then Aang was bloodbending him? Maybe Tarrlok is somehow related to Yukone? I don't know. I'm still so confused and shocked.

I thought they were just air acolytes? They're not airbenders... the only airbenders are still just Tenzin and his kids.

Potentially could Aang's other kids have airbending children since they carry the gene?
Anyways, on topic: that episode was absolutely mindblowing. All of my theories have expanded to the point of bursting.
I have to say, on the topic of stuff that didn't make my face explode: Avatar-verse car chase is best car chase. And I was really happy to see more of the airbending kids. Meelo was so Gimli in that scene where he asks Asami for her hair. hehe.

^ Yes. That makes me think so too. Plus: Plus on top of that: They have similar faces. Father/son??? Yakone is definitely a watertribe guy. Northern, I'd think. And I am pretty sure they already said Tarrlok was too? onnn the other hand why would they let his son take over his spot after he was evil without ever bringing that up? Gaaah According to Avatar Wiki Tarrlok is about 37 and Yakone threatene the city 42 years before the series began. Which would mean if they are related, Tarrlok still would have been born AFTER Yakone was "dealt with," whatever happened there. At any rate there is definitely some connection now that I see that Aang gives her the flashbacks any time Tarrlok is around. He is DEFINITELY telling her something.

MUST. FOLLOW. THAT. TUMBLR. BLOG. NAO. HNNNNNNG.
But yeah, I JUST finished watching the episode. AND WOW. SOOOO MUCH STUFF. Now, "And The Winner Is" also blew my mind, but all the questions this latest episode has brought up and SO MUCH STUFF LIKE FREAKING TARRLOK AND KORRA'S FIGHT AND THOSE FLASHBACKS AND THE ACTIONS TARRLOK IS MAKING TO GET THE POLICE FORCE IN HIS HANDS AND THE ANTI-NONBENDER MOVEMENTS IT WAS REALLY AMAZING. I also sense a bit of a WWII sort of thing? With the Equalists definitely mirroring any of the facist type movements and Amon as Hitler/Mussolini or such. But the new dynamic of Tarrlok and his Anti-NonBender movement has created a very interesting situation. I mean, it would be one thing if it was still just Amon and his anti-bender attacks and such but now we have the opposite coming into play in such an intense manner... OPPOSITES AND WAR AND STRIFE ALL OF THIS IS SO PERFECT AND IS RELATING PERFECTLY TO MY ANCIENT GREEK PHILOSOPHY CLASS I WISH I COULD WRITE THIS FINAL PAPER ON AVATAR/LEGEND OF KORRA

I could also see the WWII parallels, like using terror on the citizens of republic city was totally a totalitarian regime thing to do. But also, the whole thing kind of reminded me of McCarthyism/The red terror, in which case the equalists could be paralleled with communism, I guess?

The Equalists seem like a mix of Communist and Nazi ideas. Amon is definitely like a Hitler in the fact that he raises himself to the level of a kind of god-like ruler and the fact he wants to eliminate benders.

The red scare was a time in US history when if you were even associated with communism, you were imprisoned. It was led by John McCarthy and he led these things called "witch hunts" that put a lot of innocent people in jail. It looks like Tarrlok is a Avatar-ish John McCarthy that blood bend without the use of a full moon.
Korra seems like a very proficient earth bender. I'm curious in why she hasn't metal bended yet... That would help a lot. For get the car chase, she could just make the cars flip.
Did you know that Korra likes Mako? ... hehehe YOU ARE THE WORST POLICE CHIEF... EVER.

HAHAHA OH TENZIN. TENZIN IS PERFECT. And yeah, I definitely see Tarrlok at the Senator McCarthy of LoK, no doubt about that. And Amon as a dictator kind of cult leader... Yeah, he's got the same charisma as Hitler. Maybe not the same personality per say but if you've ever seen footage of old Nazi rallies, that's exactly what the Equalist rally reminded me of.
But, this episode did feel a bit rushed now that I've gotten time to think about it... the end was really good but the beginning was just... huh?

Considering LoK will only be two seasons in length, I think it's safe to assume that the pace is going to be pretty fast.
Anyway... I was forced to record the episode and it was cut off RIGHT WHEN THE FLASHBACK STARTED! So now I must see it online.
I have too many questions now. Instead of them being answered with each new episode, I end up having more. My friend has one consistent theory though: KORRA LOSES HER BENDING.

So Tarrlok being Yakone's son sounds pretty legit, but here's the bigger question: What happened to Hama?
You know good and well Katara would not have passed on bloodbending and while it certainly could be independently rediscovered, I don't think this is the case. Knowing Hama's preoccupation with passing on the "gift," I'm guessing that at the end of the war, she found a way out (the Fire Nation army couldn't hold her, do we really think some backwoods town could?) and sought a pupil.
If this is what happened, it could help explain the bloodbending outside the full moon. Hama might not have been a very strong bender,* especially after being incarcerated and presumably losing considerable physical strength and crucial waterbending practice. Hiding in plain sight restricted her chances to really experiment and push her skills. By the time the war was over, she was an old woman, far beyond her bending prime.
With a pupil, things change. Katara would not have developed bloodbending, though as a considerably gifted bender, she probably could've disciplined herself to being able to bend outside the full moon. Yakone, a strong enough bender to challenge the Gaang as adults, might have had the strength and discipline to develop nonfull moon bloodbending, eventually passing that on to Tarrlok.
Also, I was momentarily surprised that Korra knew about bloodbending but then I realized who her teacher was. I doubt Katara would have left that out of her training for Korra, even if it were just a warning.
*I'm working on the assumption that bloodbending doesn't actually require great skill or training. Healing, which I would assume works on the same concept of manipulating the blood and fluids in the body, requires a lot of specialized training, but I wouldn't think a lot of bending power. The Northern Water Tribe's ban on teaching women would presumably limit the amount of power they would be able to develop and discipline. A fully realized and unlimited waterbender, given the chance to train in all areas would be a much more effective healer (think about how good Katara's skill got as she became more practiced as a defensive/offensive bender).
