Sada grinned and shook the dog's paw. She began patting him on his back and stroking the tufts on his neck. She half-listened to the man argue with the animal, and only cared that she now knew the dog's name.
"You're so cute, Scruffy! Yes you are!" Sada whispered, kneeling down to the dog's level.
"Yeah, we're just out for a walk," Sada repeated, getting back to her feet. She crossed her arms, looking the man over. He was definitely missing a few mental pieces. "What's your name, huh?"

Scruffy wagged his tail at the compliment given by the water tribe girl and allowed the other one to pet him. When he got complimented again, he put his paw up over his face, embarrassed like. Nagano just slapped his hand to his forehead, letting it slowly drop down the rest of his face. "He is such a ham. Especially with pretty ladies."
He wasn't trying to pick them up. On the contrary, I think he was jealous that the dog seemed to act better with the girls then with him. He was brought out of his thoughts to himself by one of the girls asking his name.
"They call me Nagano. I don't know who 'they' are, but that's what I remember..." his temple pounded as he tried to think back. Then he began to hit himself in the head. "Darn brain! Can't seem to think straight in the past!"
"Haha... all better now. So, who are you?" He looked at them as if for the first time, being a bit suspicious of them. He eyed one then the other.
The dog just groaned and Nagano could have sworn he rolled his eyes. He decided to give the dog a look as well. "If you are not with me, then you are against me, Scruffy. Hmph!"

Ghao sat quietly, trying his best to be as unobtrusive as possible. Curiously, Li seemed to have adopted a similar poise, albeit one much more practiced and elegant than Ghao's. What kind of goddaughter was she that she was relegated to furniture? Ah, fancypants people.
He knew better than to try to make conversation with her, no matter how much he wanted to pull her into some sort of social interaction. It was against the rules Phaoi had set long ago when he set up a job for Ghao. No fraternizing.
So he kept a stiff pose, and a watchful eye. He had to know when he was welcome precisely when he became so.
Ghao never got the chance.
A massive cargo truck flew out of a dark alley, a mad blue-eyed driver plowing it into the side of the limousine. As the vehicle rolled and skidded across the street, Ghao heard tires screeching and metal folding, but the loudest sounds were the cries of the Kuans and the silence of their goddaughter.
Though never trained as a serious fighter, Ghao was a skilled enough bender to soften the metal roof-become-wall of the limousine enough to kick it through. Fire flared and scorched around the vehicle as the guards attacked the cargo truck. Concern for the family's safety set in, he bent back the flames far as he could with one move and started to pull out the closest person to him, Li.
The woman's reply to Bao was too quiet for her to hear, but Bao's flat response cut off any further conversation or details the woman could offer.
"Bring me to him, as quickly as you can."
When the young girl who had been so close to Bao outside quickly offered to accompany him, the bits of obligation Lorin felt to offer her services diminished some. It was good he wouldn't be alone.
She continued her path toward the door but then stopped to place a light hand on Bao's shoulder. "I'll let them know at work, okay? If there's anything you need... "
Lorin let the offer fall quietly.

Gabe was so lost in thoughts it wasn't until a car accident occurred in front of him that he realized he had been walking the wrong way. The accident quickly escalated to an attack on the collided vehicles and Gabe absent-mindlessly reached down to his badge; which wasn't there anymore.
He pictured Cheif Bei Fong's disapproval at the vigilante act he was about to commit and it gave him the push needed to jump into action; plus that much fire and fuel was not a safe combination. He saw the one person bending back the flames and trying to help people out of a hole in the roof and Gabe ran up to help, ripping the metal roof with his bending to create a much better exit.
"Don't worry, I'm a cop," said Gabe, both to the other bender and to the first person he helped out of the vehicle(which I guess would be Chozin? Since Ghao is helping Li/Tay).
"If you can bend those flames and keep the attackers at bay, I can get the others out," suggested Gabe, worried about the flames that licked dangerously close to the fuel tank.
OOC: I'm guessing the gang is Triple Threat, since they're fire bending and Ghao is part of the Agni Kai?

Bao hardly had to finish his sentence before Shuri whipped around towards the door to run back to the alley and show him where she'd seen his father. That was her overall goal, wasn't it? She didn't even notice the other woman stepping up to the plate but she saw the suspicion in their eyes but she was unconcerned. If she knew her siblings, which she wholeheartedly did, she'd earn a modicum of their trust in due time.
Getting ready for another long sprint, Shuri took off immediately at Bao's request. Once they got to a certain point, there was clear damage to be seen. Scorched marks decorated the street and the metal bending police were questioning bystanders. "We're too late," Shuri said weakly. Turning back to Bao and Ms. Nameless, her brows pinched as an unspoken apology took form in her expression. She failed... or at least she let the desperation of failure consume her.
"Why are they after him?" she asked no one in particular. Already a story of her relationship with Garin was coming together. Assuming Bao still lived with his father (despite knowing full well he didn't), Shuri looked back up at him with desperation in her voice. "Was Garin visited by the Triad? I don't... I don't understand... did he owe them? Why would he...?"

(Okay, I'm in the process of changing Li's name to something else because I realized there's like two billion Li's. So if I just start randomly calling her something else, go with it? >.> I just haven't decided on a concrete name, yet.)
Li's eyes were glued to the window, focusing and blurring the passing scenery. This life was not the kind of life she'd ever want for herself. There had been many suitors to come up and ask the Kuans for a date with their goddaughter but she declined every one of them. Sitting in cars, chatting idly of the weather and where their money was going? That was no life that Li wanted. Having tons of money and financial security would always be fantastic but the repercussions of it was too boring for Li.
Before long, Li's eyes began drooping as the constant hum of the car lulled her to a state of drowsiness. She rested her head on the window which proved to be a mistake. The car flipped and her head smashed through the window she'd been using for her pillow. Needless to say, Li was wide awake in the presence of danger. While still absolutely dazed, she forced herself into action the moment the ceiling was ripped off.
Still blinking away the stars and wiping away the blood on her forehead, it was the touch of someone's hand on her upper arm that truly snapped her back into action. Her bright blue eyes followed the hand to Ghao's face and she lightly and a little more politely given the circumstances wrenched her arm free of his even light grip. No, she didn't need his help. She needed to check the safety of the Kuans. Both of her wards were frightened and clutching each other yet ultimately unharmed despite several gashes and scratches. No doubt they'd need a chiropractor, just in case. Satisfied of their well being, Li kicked the bent, beat up door twice before it came loose.
Physically pushing the older couple out of the car, Li looked back to see another man helping the two in driver and passenger's seat. Motioning for the Kuans to stay the fuck put, Li seemingly scooped water out of the air to put out the flames closest to the Kuans. It was difficult and taxing but Li was capable. Li stared at the ocean to her left. [/i]So close yet so far. [/i]
In all the excitement, it was only now that Li felt annoyed at being overlooked by the cop. Not all fancypants were weak -- just look at Toph Bei Fong, for the Avatar's sake!! The frustration bubbled over and a smirk lit her lips. Fine, she'll just have to prove how capable she was.
(Is this where they start fighting some shitty Equalists or something? Because if so, let's just say she started ass kicking right about now.)

The tug on his arm was surprisingly strong. Ghao watched in a stunned awe as Li got herself free and pulled the Kuans out of the car. There was certainly something special about the silent woman bending water out over the flam--
Right, the flames. Nodding at the cop (something Ghao swore to never do again), Ghao focused his energy on stilling the fire that threatened the overturned vehicle. One lick of fire too close to the gas tank and Ghao could kiss his boat dreams goodbye.
The Agni Kai guards surrounded the offending cargo truck, slowly burning the vehicle to threaten the driver inside.
"Keep him alive!" Ghao shouted. "We need him alive!"

Bao was left with no time to thank Lorin, or dispute Quyen's bold offer to assist. Instinctively, Bao bolted close behind the pale-haired stranger. His breath remained controlled and quiet.
Even his thoughts were silent...
"We're too late..." No. We can't be too late! It isn't.
The stranger kept speaking. Her voice was broken and weak, like the streets scorched and assaulted. She turned to Bao, pressing him with questions that he not only refused to believe, but only half-heard behind his own rising fury.
The pavement beneath his feet began to crack. It would be easy, simple for Bao to lose himself and mold the earth beneath him at will. A thickness began to travel upwards from his chest to his throat.
Now was not the time for grief. Now was not the time for panic.
Bao remained silent, surveying the police and the potential witnesses.
This woman was useless to him now that it was obvious his father was not here. Bao needed leads, he needed information that would guide him in the right direction. The police were interviewing bystanders, but what good was it if they didn't do anything themselves?
Maybe she wasn't useless. She was the only one that sought him out. She had a connection to his father, even if the thread was thin. Even if it still didn't make sense.
"We need to investigate ourselves, away from the police," Bao suggested, his voice low, dark. He looked down at Shuri. "I'll follow your lead."
--------------------------------
Sada raised an eyebrow at Nagano. He was strange, only in that he seemed to have trouble piecing together who he even was. He wasn't even sure of his name!
"Hey, now. I'm sure Scruffy is still with you," Sada interjected. "Right, Scruffy? Anyway, I'm Sada. That's a nice home-bush you've got there."

Keeping up with the girl was hard. She was quick and agile. Bao had long legs, which made it easier for him to keep up but Quyen was only able to keep up the rear of the three. They finally stopped. Surveying the destruction, her mouth fell open a bit, shocked at the disregard of property. A few people has char marks or injuries, trying to get out of their way.
She could feel the rise of heat inside her. Burning hot fists rest at her side as she listened to the woman. The Triad were nasty. She knew personally how horrible they can be when they came looking for money from her Father. She wasn't going to allow the Triad to destroy another family.
Bao seemed ready to burst. He was focused. He wouldn't have noticed if she was there or not, unless it would help him find Garin. She didn't care. She would be there 100% whether he noticed or not. Whether he wanted her to be or not. That's what friends would do, right?
-----
He straightened up after hearing her compliment his home. He was incredibly proud of that bush. "Yes, well, I do try and keep it tidy and clean."
Looking over the girls and remembering their conversation before interrupting, he decided to take a chance. He smoothed his hands on his pants. "I hear you ladies were going on a tour. Would you like a guide that is very knowledgeable about the area? And the only charge would be, oh, I don't know... lunch?"
He looked expectantly at the girls, hoping he would get lucky with breakfast AND lunch.

OOC: Note, the REAL spelling of Chozen's name. Thank you And so Linda went to sell veggies with a heavy heart and mind because I want her out of the loop right now... ******** Chozen was slouching in his seat but his eyes were alert. He may have been impatient and at times inconsiderate, but he was good at his job. His slightly golden eyes peered with suspicion at every person walking down the sidewalk, every car that zipped by, even the pigeon flies he regarded with caution. It so happened that he spotted the car right before it slammed into them, but the force of the collision still knocked his head hard against something and a cut appeared against his hairline, spilling blood onto his hated suit. He blinked a few times, somewhat in shock from the accident. When his head stopped swimming from the blow to the head he found his door wrenched open by a cop, which he gave a sneer as he climbed out. Without even answering the man, Chozen began to run into the fight to join the guards, but with a growl he stopped and simply took a defensive stance between the small war and his fancypants charges. He itched to join in and let his fire get some payback for his spilled blood, but he tried to console himself that he could now pitch the stupid suit now that it was stained. A stray fireball zoomed their way and he redirected it to the side, swearing. "We need to get them somewhere safe, Ghao!" he shouted above the sound of crackling fire and straining metal.
