Yay~
EDIT: I'm so glad this forum is back. I'm so tired of going on Kataang Forever when it comes to things like this - all they're worried about is seeing their "precious sexy Aang". I'm excited for this episode because we might find out what happened all those years ago...not to see Aang.

....... OH MY GOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY I AM TO BE BACK ON THIS FORUM/THAT THE FORUM EVEN EXISTS AGAIN. I've been flailing around the internet for WEEKS trying to find somewhere to discuss Korra .... !!!
THIS EPISODE. I'm not a "oh my precious sexy Aang" person, but I do hope we see him this episode. I've been waiting to see him the WHOLE time. I mean, come on. We got Roku right away! But Bryke is waving Aang in front of us to taunt us. They KNOW we want him. They know we're all morbidly curious to see what happened to the old Gaang. WHICH IS WHY THEY KEEP STRINGING US ALONG WITH ALL THESE FLASHBACKS. Gah.
I honestly just want access to all the episodes right now.
DO YOU HEAR THAT, BRYKE!? ALL OF THEMMMM. Please. I've been watching this series since literally the night that A:TLA premiered. I can't even handle all this teasing. I've come so far as a fan, too. As I'm sure we all have. WE DESERVE MORE KORRA, SOONER. ... Honestly, my fifteen-year-old self is like "whaaaaaaaaaat how can you possibly be happier about seeing potential Aang than Zuko??? TRAITORRRRRRR."
... Now I'm just rambling ...
PS: TARRLOK. I HATE HIM SO MUCH. UGH.
As I said to my friend Chris while watching the episode this past Saturday: HE IS THE NEW ZHAO.
He's an arrogant bastard who is only concerned with his own interests. Zhao.

Quite a fantastic episode. I'm so glad some real plot movement is going on! I wish there were some more episodes in this seasons so it could have been less rushed and such. But none-the-less, it was good.
I knew it! THAT TARRLOK. I KNEW HE HAD PLANS. I also knew he was Yakone's son! Being a linguistics geek and someone loves the meaning behind names... I learned that Yakone means "red aurora" or "blood in the snow" in Inuit. So the whole bloodbender thing made sense (it was hard to tell from the flashbacks if he was actually blood-bending, but now we know he was indeed). And once Tarrlok showed his abilities... That clicked for me.
ALSO.
AMON.
OH MY GOD.
AMON.

Okay, so some coherent thoughts on this episode. I love that we finally got to see that flashback properly and hear Aang and Toph and Sokka. They're all so grown up and amazing. I love their grown up voices and may I just say that they're all extremely attractive as adults. Especially Aang. Yep. Also, although Tarrlok got his bending taken away and captured by Amon, I still think he's somehow connected to Amon. I mean, he did get extremely pissed in that last episode when Korra mentioned Amon. Also, it was really suspicious how Amon seemed to know exactly where Korra was despite nobody else knowing? He also knew that Korra was in the box downstairs despite him not having been downstairs or have seen the box at all. Yet, he told lieutenant to electrocute the box before taking Korra out. How did he know all this stuff? And why did he take Tarrlok away? He didn't take Tahno away at the pro-bending match. I don't think we've seen the last of Tarrlok because there was too much focus on him for the last couple of episodes for it to be over now. And all the flashbacks and stuff were all focused on Tarrlok and his threat can't just be over so easily. So I think he'll be back. The only thing that really annoyed me in this episode was all the focus on Makorra. Like... seriously, it needs to stop. Not only because it seems like such a forced ship that's taking up airtime by being forced down everyone's throat for no reason whatsoever but also because I feel like it's seriously undermining Asami's character. Even now, Asami is JUST Mako's girlfriend. It's episode 9 and all we've seen of her is her being Mako's girlfriend. She has so much potential as a character, yet we see none of that because we're too busy watching her get jealous about Mako and Korra's relationship. It needs to seriously stop.

I agree. Tarrlok was too much of an important player to just be gone for good.
I wonder if there is some kind of connection. Maybe they were friends? I have no idea.
I want to know more about this "energybending". I don't think what Amon is doing is necessarily energybending like the kind Aang used on Ozai. In fact, when Aang took away Yakone's bending I'm not even sure it was the same technique he used on Ozai. Definitely the same or similar to what Amon does to take people's bending away... Maybe I'm looking too deeply into the whole thing.
I JUST WANT TO KNOW ABOUT AMON.
AMON.
AND I TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT THE MAKORRA. OH SHYYYYTE I HAVE AN AWFUL FEELING IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.
Asami, I've never been thrilled about her but I thought she had some potential to be a good character... but it's been totally squandered.

Yeah, I definitely don't think Aang and Amon are doing the same kind of energybending because although they both touch the forehead, Amon doesn't touch his victim's chest. And I'd think to do something like spiritbending, hand placement is probably extremely crucial.
I also noticed that when Aang was energybending Yakone, he glowed a little as if he was in the avatar state, which makes me think that energybending may be a power that can only be used by the avatar. I mean, Amon doesn't glow obviously because he's not the avatar... so he can't really glow. But during those flashbacks, Aang was totally in control of his avatar state and he only went into it for moments to resist Yakone's bloodbending. So to momentarily go into the avatar state in order to take away Yakone's bending? It tells me that he might need the avatar state to do it. Especially since he was in the avatar state when he took away Ozai's bending too.

^ well technically in both cases, I'm pretty sure Aang was not IN the Avatar state but he was right out of it.
There could be a connection between spiritbending and the Avatar though, because the Lion Turtle said they bent the energy within themselves in the era BEFORE the Avatar. It seems like that split into four elements but only the Avatar is the one who truly would still have that ability since the Avatar is the one who can bend all four elements. Like, energybending is just the ability to bend anything rather than just one thing? It's interesting though because when it comes to bending the energy in ANOTHER persons body it's a lot more extreme and I think that either Amon isn't really doing it the same way (I'm still kind of holding to that theory) or he is completely sincere and honest and the spirits really ARE on his side. Which would explain a lot of his crazy abilities.
I can't even go into detail right now I'm still freaking out about the episode. There were so many moments that were just so fantastic I can't even begin to formulate them all.
I will be posting endlessly all over this site for the next week. But I always do that anyways. Hahaha...
Oh and I agree with Adiba about Makorra. Just stop. Please. What happened to Team Avatar? Sigh.

This is very true. I was most intrigued by seeing the flashbacks and the truth behind what happened in the flashbacks. It sounds sad, even though I like Korra I rather would have had a series about the Gaang after Aang takes down the Fire Nation...
Also, Amon being able to break free of Tarrlok's bloodbending. I talked about that in the "truth behind Amon" thread. But I really really want to know how he was able to do that.
HOWEVER.
That part actually makes me question Tarrlok's familiarity with Amon. When Amon broke free of his bloodbending, Tarrlok looked completely caught off guard and asked "What are you?"

Well, I think Amon must be a pretty spiritually connected person. I still don't believe that a spirit actually gave him the power to energybend but if Amon was telling the truth, having that power from the spirits could make him better able to resist bloodbending?
If not that, Amon must still be a pretty spiritual person because he obviously has vast knowledge about chis and chakras to be able to do chibending and possibly advanced chibending that seems like permanently taking away people's bending. And seeing as he already moves like an airbender leads me to believe that though he's not a bender himself, he must have studied bending techniques really well. Which is why he's able to move like an airbender and able to resist bloodbening.
Also, on the Makorra point, the finale preview was so dominated by Makorra and the whole series since episode two has been so dominated by it that I really do think it's going to happen. Which is just really annoying and sad because it's such an underdeveloped ship that I believe takes away from many characters' potentials. I really hope it doesn't happen because I feel like there's next to no connection between Mako/Korra and the whole thing seems just super flat. They don't even have a good friendship. I mean, a couple of episodes ago, Mako was giving Korra a friendship ultimatum because Asami was basically top of his priorities then. But now it's like "screw Asami, who the hell is Asami I only care about Korra rawr move out of the way Tenzin and Lin give this girl some space and by space I mean let me stroke her cheek lovingly and completely ignore my girlfriend".
