Well, even though you and I were never buddy-buddy, if you DID decide to go to the U of A, I'd totally feed you and show you my favorite places and things. And even if you went to ASU (I'll never forgive you for going to ASU, long time UoA rivalry has been pounded into my brain), I'll still totally go up to Phoenix and take you salsa dancing and stuff. And bring you an eegee because they're legit bomb. D'awww, I appreciate that Though the reason I'm looking at Phoenix colleges is that my boyfriend wants to go to ASU >.> <.< But you're not required to like him [/b] Hmm. I see at least two American people being seen in my future. Dare I even ask? Yessss. Am I one? :3[/b]

You are surely going to be one of the ones that I meet, Kalyn! Just a matter of where and when.
In other news, just got off my second double in a row... I now have two days off. Time to die in bed temporarily.

Yeah, it was brutal. Not to mention, I had closed the night before my first double, so I basically had five shifts in a row. By yesterday afternoon and only ten hours of sleep the whole weekend, my body was just crying for sleep, which I was hoping to get at least a short nap, but I got on my break way too late to make it worth anything.
I also woke up at around 3:30 in the morning and didn't even fall asleep until 6:00, so I'm still tired. >_> But it's a good thing that I made today my lazy day.

Tonight I was the lucky one to get a party of fifteen, count them, 15 people at the last minute, a little before we were going to close for the night. Just got home, rather irritated from other annoyances from work throughout the day, making me not even tired, and I have to go back there in 8 hours. Someone save me. D:

Who used to have the Thrice avatar? As a recent convert, I'd like to say that Thrice is awesome, and you're awesome.

I'm always trying to convert people haha. I'd been meaning to check 'em out forever and I started with The Illusion of Safety and it just didn't hit me. Then a bit later I decided to try out Major/Minor and it did, so ever since then I've been working my way through their discography. I think it was actually your old avatar that made me go, "oh yeah, those guys, I remember them", lol.

Hahaha that's really not too surprising. Dustin Kensrue himself doesn't even like Illusion of Safety. I think? I know he doesn't like his earliest stuff and he may have meant his first album he doesn't like at all and the second album (Illusion of safety) he doesn't like much I think? They played ONE song from illusion of safety when I saw them in concert a year or two back but then never ever play their first album. But even Illusion of Safety was 10 years ago so they were very young. Listen to them throughout the years and you'll see how they really evolved musically.
Anyways I don't listen to the first 2 myself much. Artist in The Ambulance is when I started liking them. Vheissu is when I loved them. And then the alchemy index is when I became an obsessed fangirl who worships their every word and sound and they were my favorite band from the day water/fire was released until forever.
Especially being a huge avatar fan, the alchemy index was amazing for sounding like the elements. But then on top of that the lyrical content is brilliant and just jadkl;fjsdaf I can't.
The last song on each album of the alchemy index is as if the respective element is talking to the human race. AND IT'S WRITTEN IN SONNET FORM.
I'm sorry I'm fangasming on you but seriously. No one else I can think of writes music like Dustin. Not even close.
Beggars inspired me as much and even possibly more than alchemy index. (I've written novels based off of songs from this album)
And then last but not least Major/Minor... I can't even. I gotta go listen to it now okay.

Haha no, I don't mind the fangasming. The Alchemy Index is probably my favorite right now, too, but more so because I'm a sucker for concept records and it's such an ambitious idea to do what they did on that. And I didn't know that the last songs were in sonnet form - I kind of had the idea that The Flame Deluge was actually about God, not the element's point of view.
The evolution I'm hearing is what I'm enjoying most. I love progression - one of my all time favorite bands, Radiohead, has basically made their career off of changing with every release, and it's why being a fan of them is so interesting. So hearing a band go from start with the sound they had on The Illusion of Safety and just a few years later end up with the Alchemy Index, is really cool.
And honestly...I think my only problem with TIOS is the production. I love heavy music, so that's no big deal, but it's definitely much rawer and less produced than the other records. I'm a bit of a recording geek, so things like that bug me... >_> I'm sure it'll click with me eventually.

HMmm, I think the Flame Deluge could also be about God, for sure. I think the four sonnet songs are written from the element's perspective but they could double as meaning from God's perspective towards men, all four of them. I initially thought Silver Wings was about God until I realized the element thing.
I know Dustin Kensrue is a Christian and some of his songs are about God and his faith or inspired by the Bible or whatever, but I love that he makes them in a way that they're not so in your face and they can mean other things too. I was raised Christian so I heard all the worship songs about God and stuff and they're so bland, not poetic or deep in the way that Thrice's music is.
Also, he's done some songs about Greek Mythology and other stories. That just makes him way cool.
I guess I love them for the fact that the more I listen to them and hear their lyrics the more I can get out of it.
I'm really, really happy you're liking them. As for the evolution of sound, I really respect bands who do that too. I've noticed it's kind of lose/lose for artists because if they don't change their sound someone complains they always sound the same but if they do something different people complain that they aren't as good anymore.
With Thrice (and I don't listen to a lot of Radiohead I'll admit but I think this is true of them too) they evolve but they still have a very distinct voice and sound so you can always recognize them.

Even though I'd consider myself in the agnostic/borderline atheist category, I still enjoy his more religious lyrics, because like you said, there's a lot of depth to them, they don't just smack you over the head with "GOD IS AWESOME MAN." You can still get other meanings out of them, or for me, see the other perspective.

Random thing of the day...
Anyone else think the Gangnam Style video is basically just one long "haters gonna hate" gif? Because someone said that to me and it's just such a great way of explaining it.
EDIT: oh hay i double posted lawl

Never thought of Gangnam style... And now I have it stuck in my head. Thanks Mike.
For a lack of anything better to post, I got back from New Jersey for the weekend a few days ago, just been relaxing, work was crazy and annoying yesterday, work was slow and boring today, been playing lots of Borderlands... And the list goes on and on.
