I just don't even know.... Is he of any relation to Hama or Yakone? Is he working for Amon or is he just another power-hungry fool?

I'm starting to think he is related to Sokka.
Why have we heard so much about the past characters EXCEPT for Sokka and yet Sokka is prominent in the flashbacks. All we know about Sokka right now is that he is dead.
I think Tarrlok could be his kid... If not, Tarrlok is definitely at least somehow involved with Amon and/or Yakone. I don't know if his connections with them are good or bad but there is something going on there.
My current theory is he very well may be Sokka's son, but I don't know. It's just shocking to me that we haven't heard anything about Sokka's line yet he was such an important character. I feel that we either have a really sad story related to Sokka OR we have seen Sokka's lineage and just don't know it yet. No one in the show has mentioned it which seems really suspicious to me.

Yeah, I think he could definitely be related to Sokka somehow.
But I also think Tarrlok must be somehow related to Amon? Or at least he must have known Amon or something because he got super angry when Korra said he was worse than Amon. I think they could be brothers and maybe it's a really bad sibling rivalry thing, like Zuko and Azula, but worse.

I also agree with that, and I think it would be interesting. Though I'm not sure if it's Tarrlok/Amon as brothers or Tarrlok/Yakone and Sokka/Amon relation? Let's say... Yakone kills Sokka, Amon is Sokka's son and thus gets pissed at benders, and then Aang takes away Yakone's bending (I was going to say kills him but Aang didn't kill a man partially responsible to the genocide of his people so I still don't see him killing anyone else for any reason). Because Aang energybended Yakone, and IF Yakone was Tarrlok's father/waterbending mentor, then it would explain why Tarrlok is so angry at Amon and the Equalists and the idea of anyone taking away someone's bending.
Perhaps that's it. Amon and Tarrlok could be brothers and Yakone could have been Tarrlok's teacher? Although I would think that if Sokka had a waterbending kid, Katara would have been his master.
Or maybe they are brothers and they aren't related to Sokka. I'm so stuck on this Sokka relation thing though because WHERE. ARE. HIS. KIDS?
I DONT KNOW ANYMORE MY WHOLE BRAIN IS CRYING.
The more I think about it the more I can't decide.
I don't know. I like all the different theories about them all and they all seem legitimate but I still feel like something is going to be revealed that NOBODY expects.

I have a theory, but I'm too sleepy to word it right, so here's Alyssa to post it properly.

After rewatching the latest episode and discussing it with Ben (greenphoenix) he came up with a new theory that I will expand upon because I think it is brilliant.
Basically, I noticed in re-watching the episode that Tarrlok is either an absolute moron or he wants the Equalist group to grow. He not only creates blatantly discriminatory laws against non benders but immediately proceeds to shut off their power so that when they are forced to go inside at nightfall they will literally have nothing but to sit in a dark room. There was nothing in his "law" that said they couldn't be allowed power, but he purposely took it away from them. He'd have to be an absolute moron to believe that they wouldn't get angry and start to protest against this. I think he wanted the nonbenders to come outside and yell and make a scene so he could call it an Equalist rally and arrest them.
This is such obvious bender oppressing nonbender that it would CLEARLY only serve to encourage more people to join the Equalists. Everything Tarrlok has done only gives Amon more followers and therefore more power.
Then there's the scene in Tarrlok's room where Korra realizes he is using her friends to manipulate her, to blackmail her and control her to do what he wants. At that moment, when she sees this, she says, "you're just as bad as Amon."
That OBVIOUSLY hits a nerve because his eyes go wild and he assaults her immediately. Why would he do so many things to build Amon's army if he hates him and being compared with him so much?
Ben's idea is that Tarrlok is Amon's pawn. Amon is using him, probably blackmailing him in some way that is why that particular scene and comparison triggered a nerve for Tarrlok.
If this is true that brings the question how is Amon blackmailing him? Tarrlok is a bloodbender, and a powerful one, the episode bloodbending was introduced was called the Puppetmaster. If Amon can control the puppetmaster he must have something big. Something about the past that Amon knows? Fear of losing his bending (or his life)? Someone Tarrlok cares about? Whatever it is, I really think this is a good theory. He works for Amon, but not completely willingly, so he hates him.
While I still am open to other ideas and excited to see what is actually going on, this is my favorite theory about the two of them so far. I think it makes a lot of sense.
I still don't understand what in the past is related to it but obviously it ties in and hopefully the next episode (titled: Out of the Past) will give us some answers for that.
