Season One is only 12 (some sites say 13, but it was originally 12 episodes) episodes long, so we're coming up on the end in about month. How do you want to see Season One End?
Personally, I want to see Korra fight Amon and lose, losing her bending as a result. Tenzin and Lin would buy the Korralation (the new Gaang) time to escape an Equalist Republic City with the Airbender Kids and then the season would end with the Equalist movement moving across the Four Nations and Korra without her power trying to stop it. (My personal epilogue would have Amon being a pawn of Koh as well)
This would allow us to go into season 2 with Korra having to focus more on the spirituality of bending rather than the force of it; giving us more Aang and Korra interaction. We'd have a tighter focus on the kids (despite how awesome Tenzin/Lin are) and it would allow us to see others in the universe like Aang's non-bender son Bumi and a post Fire-Lord Zuko, whose supposed to be a Fire Nation Ambassador, so he could play a big part in the fight against Amon. Plus, we'd get to see an updated Four Nations.

I actually wouldn't be surprised at all if the end of Season One was a fight between Korra and Amon that resultedin Korra losing, though I'm not sure if she'd lose her bending since Amon wants to save her for last.
But since we've already covered Water, Earth and Fire in the three books in A:TLA, and Air is season one of Korra, I don't think it's too far-fetched to say that season two may need Korra to learn spiritbending?

My original thought was also that season 2 would be Spirit. Even if it's not about the bending of another person's spirit, Korra at least needs to learn the spiritual side of bending in general that all Avatars know.
So yes, I also think season 2 will be spirit. Which is epic. Plus, Airbending and the spiritual aspects of bending were the two things Aang was a prodigy with (I mean, he was an airbending Monk. It's only natural). It's cool that they made Aang start out with those two qualities and then Korra struggles with them so much. And I hope season 2 contains lots of Aang.
The thing is though, "to bend another's spirit, one's own spirit must be unbendable, or it will be corrupted or destroyed." Korra is DEFINITELY not there yet, but it would be cool to see her develop as a character to the point that she has the same resolve, sincerity, and heart that Aang did.
... I love Korra and everything, but miss Aang.

I don't think a season 2 has even been confirmed. They originally said this was going to be a one season sort of thing but bitches be changin' them minds all the time. I really, really hope we get more of this and I legit have nothing else to add. I pretty much agree with everything you've both said.

Well, I'm fairly confident that Bryan has talked about doing season 2 artwork on his tumblr, so I think we will have a season 2?

If there is no season 2, I may hurt myself.

The show originally got 12 episodes approved, but somewhere down the line, shortly before Season One got aired, they got another 14 episodes approved and that's tentatively become Season Two, because of the wait between the original 12 and the second wave of 14.

After the latest episode, episode 9 Out of the Past, my mind is officially mush and I have no idea how to speak language anymore.
If you haven't seen that episode yet go watch it now before you read this:
So forgive me if this is messy but I have to say how that episode and the finale preview completely blew my mind. And my theories/expectations have exploded into new life.
I now think that Amon WILL completely remove bending from Republic City, at least, and I think he will even get to Korra. Now either as he is about to she will go all glowy-eyes on him or he will follow through and she will lose her bending. I am starting to think they will ALL lose their bending.
Then season 2 (which I already supposed would be called spirit because air bending and the spiritual side of / spirit bending were what Aang was good at from day one and Korra was bad at from day 1) will FORCE Korra to finally get in touch with the spiritual side of being the Avatar because, well, there won't BE a physical side anymore for her.
I still believe Korra will learn the ability to return bending because I STILL don't think Amon is completely energy bending. I think all she needs is someone such as Aang to appear to her and teach her about the chakras in a guru like episode. ON THE OTHER HAND, even if Amon IS energybending completely, Korra's the avatar. She has Aang's spirit and if she just learns to spirit bend as well can't she give people their bending back that way?
Whatever happens, I don't know. This will become more coherent in a few days when I regain the ability to move my arms without pain.
That episode was too much, it literally made me feel like /I/ was bloodbended.

Okay what.
from about 45 seconds Is Amon bloodbending? because he's doing some wonky stuff with his hands that looks bloodbendy and then you see the way Korra and Mako are struggling looks like they are being bloodbended to me. SO MUCH UNCERTAINTY RIGHT NOW.
Maybe that's why he took Tarrlok along, to use his bloodbending? Maybe he actually absorbs people's bending after all? Maybe he's also Yakone's other son.
MAYBE IT ISNT BLOODBENDING AT ALL BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK.
At this point I'm thinking Aang showing her the flashback scene wasn't just a warning about Tarrlok .

I have a feeling Amon is going to win, but maybe Team Avatar will narrowly escape as Team Avatar did often in the original series (namely end of season 2.)
I also have a feeling General Iroh's forces are going to get destroyed by the equalists. It sucks, but that's what it looks like in the preview so =\
MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE... Mako will lose his bending and get depressed and jump off a bridge (hope so) and then Iroh will become the fire bender of team avatar and he will join them because he lost his army so he has to REGAIN HIS HONOR.
*wishful thinking*
I actually still think everybody might lose their bending. BUt it's reverse-able.
Still totally convinced it's not permanent.
I love you Amon but... no. You are no Aang.

I found this online but I can't find the source? If it's true, I am really sad. I don't want Amon to be over. =C I wanted the dark, cliffhangery ending that leads us into season 2.
And I want more Amon. I will shed tears when he's gone.

I can't really see how Amon's story can end at the end of this season though. I feel like the whole thing is set up for Amon to win at the finale.
