Probably the biggest ship of the fandom, from even before the show began. I personally hate the dynamics of the Makorra relationship and maybe the ship has lost quite a few followers considering how things have been going with Mako and Korra? I don't really know. Do you ship it or hate it or what?

I personally like the ship but I don't really understand the dynamics of the relationship and breaking the other girls heart. But it reminds me of my dear beloved zutara so... VIVA MAKORRA!!! LOL

Your ship is bad and you should feel bad.
Just kidding, though. I also really dislike it but it may be in part to me disliking Mako, however I will say that while it seems a lot of Zutara fangirls jumped on it just because it resembles Zutara on the surface, I don't think it's ANYTHING like Zutara (other than they look sort of like Zuko and Katara and are fire/water).
The dynamic of the Zutara relationship was appealing partly because they started out as enemies and there was always a tension between them due to that. While I never personally SHIPPED Zutara I always sort of liked it and understood what was interesting/attractive about them. I don't see any of that with Makorra, personally.

UGH, MAKORRA...
I mean, I don't ship much in LoK, perhaps due to the fact it's like, so obvious and pushed on everyone... Or it was... But I really dislike the dynamics of Makorra as well. It's too artificial and awkward and there's barely anything that really makes it pleasing and to be honest, I don't like Mako much either. I don't mind moody/quiet types but his character is just boring to me and I don't care about him at all. He's pretty much used Asami to the point I'm going to start calling him a Yuan-Digger ... <.<;; So maybe, like Lyss, I don't like Makorra because I'm not too cray cray about Mako... But for me whenever Makorra moments happen I wish they weren't... Once the whole Makorra thing happened, which was way too early on and way too strongly, I even lost liking for Korra. And I LOVED Korra's whole person but then Makorra... EH.
I prefer Bolin so much. And Tahno. Both of them are much more interesting to me than Mako. And while I don't really ship anything in LoK I don't like Makorra much.

Yeah, I'm pretty much with Steph and Lyssa on this.
Like... everyone kind of jumped on the Makorra before we even knew what the characters of Mako and Korra were and that in itself kind of irked me. But then when the show started up, I felt like Makorra was just being pushed down my throat because it was so blatant and forceful.
I also dislike the dynamics to the relationship itself because I just don't like Mako. I feel like he's been an ass to Korra right from the start. He's constantly been rude and annoying and just a plain jerk. I don't even understand why Korra is attracted to a man that treats her so badly
Another thing that puts me off Makorra is comparing the dynamics of Mako and Korra's relationship to the dynamics of Bolin and Korra's. Bolin has been super sweet to Korra from day one while Mako has been a jerk. Bolin is a good friend of Korra's whilst Mako is... a jerk. Bolin and Korra go out and have fun and hang out while Mako is a jerk. Bolin brings Korra flowers and thanks her for saving his life while Mako continues to be a jerk!
My opinion is pretty biased because I really dislike Mako but... yeah. Don't like Makorra.

I mean, I understand the whole "guy who likes you and is sweet but you just see him as a friend and instead want the jerk guy who you can't have" ... I've been there personally... but I don't like the rest of the dynamics of the relationship and I DO like the idea of Borra more than Makorra...
I don't like Mako either. He's blah.

Yeah, I get that too and I also understand the whole being attracted to a broody bad boy or whatever. But I don't understand why Korra would be attracted to someone who acts like such a jerk around her. I've never understood why anyone would be remotely attracted to someone who doesn't treat you nicely. Maybe it's just me. I don't know.

The whole "treats her like a jerk" thing probably just makes her want him more... I mean it doesn't seem logical but that's something that girls tend to go for. It's when they treat you like that it makes you want them for some reason... I don't know how to explain that whole thing... But I mean, for me it's one thing when a guy is teasing and sarcastic even if it's a bit mean, it's another thing if he's a flat out jerk like Mako is.

Honestly yes maybe some girls would go for a jerk but I don't. At all. And from my perspective I see Korra's character as the type of girl who would absolutely NOT go for that kind of guy.
Think of how much attitude she gets when anybody else challenges her or mistreats her. The way she acts towards Mako to me annoys me because it seems very uncharacteristic. Bryke are usually so good at making their characters good and consistent but that's possibly what pisses me off the most about Makorra. It seems so out of character and forced despite everything about it making me feel like it realistically wouldn't even be a thing.

I agree with the whole thing about Korra's character. Perhaps since she finds Mako attractive it kind of cancels out her logic and makes her act in an uncharacteristic manner... Trust me, love, lust, attraction, infatuation and such are some powerful forces and can make people act and do crazy things... Just trying to see the other side of the whole Makorra thing, but I still don't like it. Mako always makes me not like Korra when they interact and I don't want that to happen because I love Korra! D: I just feel like Makorra is supposed to be the new Zutara (I didn't ship Zutara either) but it isn't nearly as interesting or subtly played out, which I felt created the attraction of Zutara along with the whole enemies/opposite things (Fire/Water).

Yeah, I agree with both of you guys there.
Honestly, one of the main reasons that I dislike Makorra is because I feel like it's very forced and rushed. I think if it was a tad more subtle, I wouldn't dislike it as much. I know that the series in general is a lot more fast-paced than A:TLA but I've loved the pacing of absolutely everything else except for this.

Yeah, I mean how long is LoK going to be again? I understand that Mike and Bryan have to keep things moving and perhaps a little faster than I like. I enjoy a bit more character formation and setting development and such but lately I've really liked the fast-pace because it heightens the excitement I believe, but as for shipping... Shipping should not EVER happen this quickly I don't care what's going on.... It reminds me of Twilight... I mean, I get there can be love at first sight and all that but this isn't really love between Mako and Korra or whatever... This pairing just really leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth.

I love character development myself and agree with you guys completely. I came into the show really liking the looks of Korra and Mako. The little bit of angst between them was cute and all. But the longer I seem to see Mako and the joining of Asami, it's just lost a little for me. He is a total user and I don't really understand why they decided to make his character like that. I liked the beginning episode mostly for the fact that he was a bit of the bad boy, not interested in girls thing. The whole Asami thing threw me for a loop and made his character break into an almost different personality, in my opinion. IDK. I still like the pairing but they need to ease up on the innuendos and focus a bit more on the storyline. If they write it as well as they did the original, it will just happen naturally without the unnatural push as they are giving it thus far. Glad we are pretty much in agreement on this for once. LOL

I personally hate it. I feel like the relationship is so obviously forced. Mako had a nice thing going with Asami. And while there was a hint of Korra liking Mako, it annoyed me in that one episode where suddenly she knew he was her true love and had to tell him like Tenzin's wife did for Tenzin. And she was so obnoxious about it, trying to force him to say he loved her back. I also feel like it's basically a rip-off Zutara for those that didn't get it in the original series. I like Mako and Korra as separate characters, but together they suck. Though they both are as stubborn as firebenders. Also Shadowbender's post that I deleted to move here after I realized I made a duplicate thread >.> I also feel like it's basically a rip-off Zutara for those that didn't get it in the original series. I didn't know how to properly sum up my feelings about them until just now. This is it, exactly. It does seem really forced, to the point that's it's almost uncomfortable to watch. I definitely think Mako and Asami would have made a better pairing. (although the only pairing I'll ever truly ship is Korra x Amon)
