In a world where Korra meet Game of Thrones, Toph Bei Fong and Sokka Of The Water Tribe conceived a child while going off to war to assist their personal friend Aang. Nobody knew if they were going to make it home and Sokka forgot about his wife Suki when he finally gave into the feelings he had for Toph since they had meet and thus a bastard was born when they returned home from war. Toph knew Sokka loved Suki and would never hurt him that way, so she claimed the father was another, taking her secret to the grave...
No matter what Bryke say, that is what happened.

Hahaha. I like that theory Shaun, considering how badass Lin is, it doesn't even seem far-fetched.
In all honesty, I didn't know what to think of Lin when we were first introduced to her. I got where she was coming from because she wanted peace and order in republic city.
But knowing some more of her back story and getting more character development has made her one of my main characters. I think she's probably one of the best, if not the best, fighters on the show so far. Watching Lin fighting was one of the best things about episode 6 and 7.

Ok, so new theory... That works in part with the old theory.
When Sokka died, his spirit went up to the stars to be with Yue (the moon) and one day, a star crashed near the Bei Fong estate. Toph mined ore out of it and bent a trinket from the star material for her daughter; that way Lin could always have a bit of her father with her.
