We're at a nice halfway point in the year, and there have already been several albums I've really enjoyed, and more I'm looking forward to. I usually love going through year-end lists to find gems I missed through the year, but since we've already passed a good chunk of the year, share some of your favorite new releases from this year.
What I've liked so far this year:
Mark Lanegan Band - Blues Funeral
Simply put, this man's voice is amazing. It's so full of grit and yet somehow, it's almost soothing. I was aware of him from his work with Queens of the Stone Age and the Screaming Trees, but this was the first time I ever checked out one of his solo albums, and I was happily surprised.
The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet
I was never a huge fan of the Volta - their songs tended to get too uselessly long and drawn out for me, but a few stuck with me. This year, they put out a new album, and I stumbled across one of the singles, and boom, nice, compact, songs-with-actual-songwriting.
Silversun Pickups - Neck of the Woods
This band never disappoints me. Got into them literally the day after me and my girlfriend started going out, and three years later, they're back with a lush and textured album that I love.
Jack White - Blunderbuss
Decided to check it out after watching a live stream concert of his. Not my favorite release of the year, but it's pretty damn good.

Rush - Clockwork Angels
Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania
Deftones - TBA
Coheed and Cambria - TBA
