Hmmm...this is hard. I only ever really got settled into one avatar-based RP so I'm not used to making benders. Best place to start is to know their element or lack thereof...BUT I DUNNO WHAT TO DO.
Maybe I'll start with gender...hmm. RPing boys is always more fun. Two boys and one girl. Yeah. Hmmm...

I'm pretty certain I always favor my male characters over my female characters (and I always end of shipping them with someone :3).
I start off with an image search. Once I see an image, I can start to develop a character. I'm working on a male and a female now.

Yaaaaay someone can end up shipping their boy with Kai huuurrrr haha I usually have male ocs and I really wanted a N. Water tribe waterbender girl so I decided to make a female oc

Mmhmm, a picture helps me decide too. I like to have an idea first though. Like male firebender. So, okay, that makes me think he's wearing red. That he'd sort of rugged. Probably not smiling in his picture. Then once I find a picture, then I go from there about who he is and where he came from, etc etc.
BUT I DUNNO IF I WANT A MALE FIREBENDER.
I think the girl might be a non-bender. And that she is a meek sorta person but doesn't hate benders. But she doesn't really hang out with them either. Yeahhhh.
Now for the boys!

I'm in love with Kai already. And she's a total FOB (Fresh off the boat) haaaaa. If any of your characters are city slickers I want them to interact with her all "OMG YOU ARE NOT FROM AROUND HERE"

Hmmm...I kinda wanna gang guy. Best way to do that is probably firebender. But I dunno...I kinda wanna a slick sorta guy. But I don't really want to do waterbender...I think I'll have a waterbending good guy maybe. I've never been an earthbendering sort of person...Gah. IT'S SO HARD. I haven't had to create a character like this in a long time. I'm rusty. And if I recall, just as hard as it was then o.o

I ALWAYS HAVE EARTHBENDING MALES.
It's just what I fall into. I've only had one Waterbender. The rest have been split between Fire and Earth.
My female is going to be a non-bender. Maybe not. I feel like we need more than young adults... Like an Officer or something. I'll have to look further...

Man...I already have a gist of three characters, but I really wanna have a fourth but I don't feel like bugging Shaun about it...I want a tragic anti-bender bender. Some guy/gal that hurt someone with their bending and now doesn't want it anymore. But is afraid to tell his/her anti-bender friends because they might suddenly dislike her/him even if his/her powers get taken away.

I actually really like that idea. It's different. You wouldn't expect a bender to want to get rid of their bending...
I may have an Equalist. I'm still undecided. I want to stick with only two characters for now. I don't want to get caught up in "what about this!? Or this!?" and a load of ideas.
